Paul Murphree, DO

Paul Murphree, DO, ScD, is a Partner at Chartis, recognized for over 25 years of transformative leadership in healthcare practice, operations, and governance. Having led a comprehensive revision of medical staff policies across his former multi-hospital system and medical group, Paul has firsthand experience implementing organizational change. This background gives him a deep understanding of the Chartis perspective. Paul has helped clients across multiple settings including hospitals, ambulatory organizations, and health systems. Additionally, he currently serves as Medical Director for Chartis’ External Peer Review Program, guiding institutions in adopting best practices for peer review, quality, and governance.

With a foundation in engineering and a Black Belt in Lean Six-Sigma, Paul excels in leading Lean transformations and high-reliability initiatives. His expertise has fueled system-wide improvements in sepsis care, mortality reduction, and resuscitation, while his hands-on approach to Root Cause Analysis has strengthened safety and performance across diverse clinical settings.

A passionate educator, Paul founded a premier physician leadership academy and regularly delivers sessions on peer review, quality improvement, and leadership. His career spans impactful roles as Chief Medical Officer and Chief Medical Information Officer, consistently driving innovation and measurable improvements in healthcare delivery. Paul has quantified his net impact score which has resulted in nearly 250 thousand patient lives positively impacted, and it fundamentally ties to the Chartis vision of “Believing in Better.’
