Mortality is more than a quality metric, it reflects the collective performance of clinical care, operational processes, documentation, care transitions, and organizational culture. This session will explore a comprehensive, collaborative approach to improving mortality outcomes by focusing on five key drivers: mortality review, transfer center practices, hospice and palliative care, sepsis management, and clinical documentation and coding. Participants will learn how aligning leaders, physicians, nurses, quality teams, and other stakeholders around these interconnected drivers can identify opportunities for improvement, strengthen care delivery, and produce more sustainable patient outcomes.
After attending this session, participants will be able to:
- Identify the five key drivers of mortality improvement
- Describe the role of interdisciplinary collaboration and organizational governance
- Apply an integrated approach to mortality improvement
