Eamonn Wheelock

Eamonn Wheelock is a Senior Consultant with The Chartis Group, specializing in the physical environment. He brings more than 17 years of experience in healthcare emergency management, safety, security, support services, and the environment of care experience to healthcare organizations to strengthen their physical environment programs. Eamonn has led emergency responses to a range of real-world events and has designed and conducted emergency exercises. His work includes leading support services departments. He specializes in accessing compliance for physical environment compliance for CMS Conditions of Participation.

Prior to joining Chartis, Eamonn served as the Executive Director of Safety and Support Services for a multi-hospital health system. He had responsibility for the system’s support services departments including food and nutrition, environmental services, biomedical engineering, construction services, security, safety, facilities management, valet services, patient transport, and the switchboard. He served as the corporate safety officer, was deemed the person responsible for the emergency management program and was responsible for regulatory compliance in the physical environment. Earlier in his career, Eamonn held leadership roles that progressed from programmatic leadership, leading departments, to ultimately becoming trusted to lead across a wide area. He credits his early years in the United States Marine Corps with providing him the foundation to learn and grow in these roles.  

Eamonn has served as both a member and president on the board of a non-profit community emergency preparedness program, has built and maintained relationships with local and state emergency management agencies, fire marshals, and other authorities having jurisdiction. He has worked extensively with health care coalitions focused on healthcare emergency preparedness and response at the local, regional, and state levels.

Eamonn is passionate about the safety and security of healthcare. He is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Public Administration and Public Policy where his work is focused on health system emergency preparedness integration. He holds a Master of Public Health with a concentration in emergency preparedness and a Master of Arts in Executive Leadership. He also holds an undergraduate degree in emergency and disaster management. He has multiple certifications in safety, security, and emergency preparedness for health care, both the Certified Healthcare Safety Professional and the Certified Healthcare Emergency Professional.
